Information Literacy @ Parrish
The Parrish Library of Management & Economics Information Literacy initiatives, as part of the broader Purdue Libraries Information Literacy Program, builds a foundation for discovery, learning, and engagement across the University and its broader communities. The Parrish Library Information Literacy activities collaboratively develops skills and competencies in learners to identify, find, evaluate, and ethically use business information, enabling academic success.
The University's Core Curriculum contains Information Literacy as a Foundational Learning Outcome. Parrish Library is at the forefront of implementing and assisting with this crucial learning outcome. See the Core Curriculum information page.
For-credit Courses
The faculty within the Parrish Library currently teach two 1 credit-hour courses:
- GS 175 Information Strategies for Hospitality & Tourism Management Students
- An 8-week course required of all incoming freshmen within the School of Hospitality & Tourism Management.
- Course has been offered for 4 years.
- Course focuses on improving the information literacy skills of students within a Hospitality & Tourism Management context.
- The course is also one of three courses within the Team HTM Learning Community required courses.
- An 8-week course required of all incoming freshmen within the School of Hospitality & Tourism Management.
- GS175 Information Strategies for Management Students
- An 8-week course that is currently an elective within the School of Management.
- Course will be offered for the first time in Fall 2012.
- Course focuses on improving the information literacy skills of students within a Management context.
- The course is required for the Management Honors Learning Community and the Management Direct Admit Students
- An 8-week course that is currently an elective within the School of Management.
Integrated Instruction
The team of instructors within the Parrish Library can visit your class for a single session or for multiple sessions. Specific databases and topics can be covered in 20, 30, 50 minute or longer visits. We are also available to assist in developing information intensive assignments using quality resources.

Embedded Instruction
